Desain Grafis Indonesia (DGI) in NEWtrees Project in Sebangau National Forest in Central Kalimantan

NEWtrees is a joint initiative by WWF Indonesia, Nokia and Equinox Publishing to replant trees in Sebangau National Forest in Central Kalimantan. Supported by Surya Palacejaya, this replanting project gives people an innovative way to help reforest this protected national park and monitor the growth of the trees through geotags (trees labeled with precise latitude and longitude coordinates).

NEWtrees activity allows companies to make a positive impact on the environment by replanting trees in Sebangau National Forest in Central Kalimantan, an area of gambut forest producing a large amount of CO2.

Jelutung trees planted under this program will be maintained and protected for a period of 10 years by the local Dayak community together with Sebangau authorities under WWF supervision.

Trees planted are meant for forest conservation, but the program also acts as a direct response to the threat of climate change, CO2 absorption and global warming – as well as providing shelter for countless flora and fauna, including one of the largest remaining orangutan populations in the world.
